With a smile

I know that you are familar with the title of our article today. And to remind you, it derives from the Eraserheads hit song With a Smile!

I was in HighSchool when this song becomes very popular and amazingly it is still a hit for me specially right now that i had stroke. I cant imagine myself having this illness to myself. All i thought only before is I want to understand Stroke so that i could handle it properly with patients. I know i could learn it by reading books or articles in the website but now i am learning and overcoming it through experience.

In relations to the title of this article, luckily my stroke does not affect so much of my actions. except on my first 3 weeks from February 14- it paralyze my left part of my body. my left legs could not move so as my arms and hands. The paralysis reached my left face that makes me to have slurred speech.

I was so down that time and my left part of the body is literally cold and at that time i considered it dead as if your right part of the body is alive and moving while the left part is dead. i want to move it but literally i could not move. i could not even picked my nose using my left finger or wash my butt when i poop. it has no strength to carry a tabo (dipper) or even a glass of water. But in my mind i refuse to be enslaved and be chained by stroke. literally stroke makes you a prisoner within your body that makes you not only limited but totally all your freedom are frozen.

Luckily, i have a companion here in the Shrine. Lakay helps me to be warmed up and battle the coldness that covers my body. With the help of the Diwata through a Hilot Orasyon and pagpapahid, the natural heat of my body has been restored that now i can walk and move my arms. But i am still working out my smile.

How do our Ancestors know what plant to use to provide cure to certain ailments?

How are you fellow Habi? It’s been a while since i made a post here. Well we are expecting new graduate this coming february as two batches will complete the training program on Non Contact Hilot: Mind and Spirit Working Class.

Since there are already many graduates who are well versed in communicating with ancestral and divine spirits through tawas, we are planning to open up new training program this year which is the Albularyo Healing Course which will focus on Plant Medicine Spirit.

These week, i have made a vlog at Luntiang Aghama YouTube channel as i reading comments from my viewers, there is one comment that i want to share it here about plant medicine. And the topic would answer the question of:

How our ancestors know which plant to use to provide cure in certain illness?

The video is in Tagalog as i goal out to reach Filipino Audience and encourage them to Learn also the Indigenous Spirituality of our Home Land.

In this video we have mentioned that the Engkanto or the Elemental Spirits were the first creatures being created by the Divine. Through the Engkanto, they become the Ingredients on how we are been created as Human being.

In Hilot the essence of the Engkanto which are the Earth, Air, Fire and Water becomes our being and the Spirit is the one who give us life.

As the Engkanto are the first creation, they become our Elder which in other terms are babaylan. But before mankind was created, the plants were elder to us Human Animals. As the plants becomes food to animal so as to human beings.

Our ancestors use plant not only for food and medicine but also use it for shelter and even clothing. Like us as Human beings, plants are also composed of the Elements.

And the elements within plants can be learned through Hilot sa Halaman. I know i have this book available through our Subscription Page which is at Filipino Magick

Carromancy: Divination using melted candle wax

I learn this method of Tawas Diagnostic/Divination as I grew Up. I see Magtatawas perform this to determine the cause of illness of an Individual and uses the water to rub on the skin of the client as a remedy and the melted wax is kept on a paper and was used as an Amulet.

It is said that this form of Divination is not of Filipino Origin as it is believed that it is rooted in Celtic Tradition with the Druids. When I searched on the Internet the oldest candle factory in the Philippines, I found the Sevilla Candle Factory of Malabon that started its operation of manufacturing candles on 1964. Now I wonder if the Katipunero’s use Candles or Just an Oil Lamp? Is the use of candle been introduced to us by Spain? Uhm… there are many works to do in discovering our roots even with just little information.

Tuon Mandala

This is a Tuon ( pronounced as Two On) which is similar to Mandala where we use as a Focal Point for our prayers and devotion. In the middle of Tuon is the Word #Anito which is written in #Baybayin and the words that surround it are the Baybayin Characters that would spell the prayers of Luwalhati which is the official mantra of #LuntiangAghama and of the #HilotBinabaylan.

Learn how to use Baybayin in Rituals and Prayers by attending the #SiAdTala #BaybayinMysticOracle Attunement Workshop as facilitated by our Brother @alsent.aghama on October 20, 2021.

The Power of Prayer to Heal

Even before the Christian Era, our ancestors already know how to pray. It is documented that since the late Neolithic or before 2000 BC. the Ancient Filipino already know how to pray. This is evidenced through the cave wall writing in Angono, Province of Rizal through the Angono-Binangonan Petroglyph.

The engravings are mostly symbolic representations and are associated with healing and sympathetic magic.

This natural monument in the Province of Rizal shows that we as Filipino believe that there is a Higher Power than us that could provide us healing when we are sick. And in search for that Higher power we have learned how to pray. And for us we believe that Prayer has an amazing power to heal us in time of illness.

But how can Prayer Heal?

People recognize that they are sick when they feel it as secondary reaction to the main disorder of their internal system. It is through our feelings that we describe our illness. When we assess people when they are sick, we ask them how they feel. We usually measure their pain as well as the limitations it gives when we are sick.

Prayer can help people get well and have healing since it works towards the mind and emotion. Prayer is a form of Divine Communication that we express our thoughts, and our thoughts describe through prayer what we feel; and our feelings/ emotions as a reaction to the stimulus that been made. Prayer is a form of voicing out what is within us such as in a distressful situation we call out for Help.

In praying for Healing, we recognize that we are in need; that something is not going right within us that make us ill. By recognizing that something that is not right, we are given counsel by our higher selves the thing we need to do so that we may feel better and restore wellness back into our life.

Lana at Liwanag, our Tools in moving prayer

Hilot is a form of Prayer in Action. Action is needed when we pray as we have taught it in the Shrine.

Prayer in Action

Every action that we do in Hilot, whether in Pulse Reading Analysis, Tawas Spiritual Diagnosis, Suob/ Palina Ritual, Kilubansa, Dagdagay, Bentusa and Masahe are all form of Prayer and communication of the manghihilot to the Divine Self of the Patient we are healing. Thus as Manghihilot, our Orasyon or Prayer is not useless but it has direct effect of healing to relieve the person from illness and dis Ease.

The power behind the oil of manghihilot

IMG20181103104209Throughout the ages, the common Filipino people have a bottle of Healing Oil kept in their home altar. Within these bottle relies the health and life of their Family. Whenever a family member is in pain or have illness, the bottle of oil is used to be applied on the person to invoke healing to come and make the person whole again.  This bottle of oil also becomes a detector if there are some evil forces nearby their home. It is seen that the oil inside the bottle will become bubbly, or the outside surface of the bottle has moist as if the oil spilled out or even the oil inside the bottle is boiling. This is why we often see a bottle of healing oil being sold nearby churches. Because the oil need to be blessed in order for its properties to take effect.

In our Old Tradition, the Powerful healing oil should be made by a Babaylan who is also a Healer. It is done during the Full Moon of Friday during Holy Week. For about a month, the healer gather all the it’s ingredients in the mountain and on the time of the Full Moon he will cook it as he invoke the power of the God to be present as he make the Holy Oil. From the concocted oil, Life and Death will bow down to all who possess this sacred oil.

In this video as you can see, you can dip your hands into a boiling hot healing oil while making it and will not burn you. Since it is made of freshly picked and pounded organic herbs, you will feel its hot but it will not burn you because of the healing and cooling effect of the herbs.

Sculpture in a Glass of Water

What can you see? What story does it tell?

A Japanese artist went to me for Hilot. So i give her Hilot and start with Tawas Ritual. I prepare a glass of water and raw egg and start to pray and make the egg touch the body parts of the client which are the gate way for the soul. After prayer i break gently the egg into the glass of water and it started to form shape so as telling its stories.

Raw Egg broken into a glass of water is a divinatory method that is categorized as Scrying. The raw egg and the glass of water is the medium and the interpreter is the channel for the messages of the soul (higher and lower self of the client) whom the Manghihilot have contacted to communicate with.

Each shape that been formed in the glass tell specific stories. Even the way how the egg is brocken tells specific areas of the clients life. Each stories may refer to situations, and each situations may tell the condition of the wellness of the client where the manghihilot must determine which body organs radiating that situation.

Tawas is not just a Divinatory Art that tells a story. Because the story that been told by tawas is your own story which the Manghihilot would channel to locate the areas in your life that needs attention.
