Miracles happen when you believe. Hilot has been known as a folkloric medicine that is based on spirituality and mysticism but when you spend time discovering its ways you will see the arts and science behind it. Our ancestors who practice this as our First Medicine are unschooled individuals who has no Certificates, Diploma or Professional License to practice it but it works wonders on their patients.

Not all Manghihilot were born as Manghihilot. Some of them became a Patient first that been healed by a manghihilot from chronic illness and as part of thanksgiving to God they swear an oath to continue the practice of Hilot to preserve it. From observation and oral instruction they emulate how their manghihilot heal them and apply it to their family and later to their neighborhood. Some Manghihilot learn through the recollection of their memories on how their parents and grandparents personally apply our indigenous medicine to them when they are sick. And through practice they enhance their abilities to heal.

verma apprenticeship There are no formal schools of Hilot way back then. They learn Hilot through apprenticeship, observation and oral instructions given to them by their elders. There is no certificate, diploma or professional license given to them as a proof that they know how to perform hilot. The only proof that you are manghihilot is that you perform and obtain favorable results in your action that is Healing.

It takes a lot of courage and confidence in order to be a Manghihilot. That is why sometimes it is considered also as a Faith Healing Modality because you need a lot of faith and trust in your ability that you can work wonder in healing your patient. Being a Manghihilot is not a Certified Professional but they are Ordained Minister in bringing back wellness into life. Since the main belief in Hilot is that Life is a sacred gift from the Divine, and our body is the house of the spirit so the work of manghihilot does not only focus on the Physical matter but also works on the soul and spiritual well being.

The power behind the oil of manghihilot

Throughout the ages, the common Filipino people have a bottle of Healing Oil kept in their home altar. Within these bottle relies the health and life of their Family. Whenever a family member is in pain or have illness, the bottle of oil is used to be applied on the person to invoke healing to come and make the person whole again. This bottle of oil also becomes a detector if there are some evil forces nearby their home. It is seen that the oil inside the bottle will become bubbly, or the outside surface of the bottle has moist as if the oil spilled out or even the oil inside the bottle is boiling. This is why we often see a bottle of healing oil being sold nearby churches. Because the oil need to be blessed in order for its properties to take effect.

In our Old Tradition, the Powerful healing oil should be made by a Babaylan who is also a Healer. It is done during the Full Moon of Friday during Holy Week. For about a month, the healer gather all the it’s ingredients in the mountain and on the time of the Full Moon he will cook it as he invoke the power of the God to be present as he make the Holy Oil. From the concocted oil, Life and Death will bow down to all who possess this sacred oil.

In this video as you can see, you can dip your hands into a boiling hot healing oil while making it and will not burn you. Since it is made of freshly picked and pounded organic herbs, you will feel its hot but it will not burn you because of the healing and cooling effect of the herbs.

Meeting new people around the world provides a venue for learning opportunity. And the best learning experience you will have is when you live together at home. Our own Home is the first School every individual have. This is where our behavior is first formed and molded. In our own home is where we receive first love and care that we treasure most. We receive our life lesson from our Mother and Father, so as to our brother and sister and other relatives. They become our role model in living our life.

Hilot is an experiential modality of healing rather than academic. It’s method are learned not through theories and scholarly manner but through experience. It is first passed down by the Divinity to the Babaylan; and the Babaylan to the Community. In every Filipino Home, there is one who usually stand as a Healer in the Family and mostly the mothers. Indeed in our Home, my Mother is our Healer. And now that she have crossed the veil, it is now my turn to continue the Healing Tradition of Hilot in our Family. And as a mission in preserving our Hilot, I am sharing it to the world as my Legacy of love to mankind.

Hilot as we all know it here is the Philippine Traditional Medicine. Indeed it is from the Philippines but its practice is not limited to the Filipino only. The wisdom of Hilot is not about the actual application of the procedures but the Discipline and Wisdom of the practitioner to provide love and care. In sharing our Love and Care does not require us to have a highest educational Diploma or Title, but only our willingness to share. Yes Sharing is the right term instead of giving or providing. Because when we share Hilot, we do not need have to be empty handed unlike in giving you totally left nothing for you. In sharing all of us enjoy the benefit of Hilot. We do not take the illness nor give our power but we share it to one another to improve ourselves, our health and our life.

This is what we experience with our Ayurvedic Therapist from Turin, Italy. We share our Hilot to him as he also share his Art and Healing Modality to us. Agar Agar is our newest Hilot Binabaylan from Turin, Italy. He took our lesson on the 23rd of July that he completed on the 29th of July 2019. He will go back to Italy on the 31st of July so we all wish him Buon Viaggio.

Teachers of Life

Colonization brought new form of medicine to our People, but as they bring new Medicine- the colonizer also bring new diseases into our land. When the colonizers settled into our Land they formed their own government over ruling the native people and had control of our land. As time pass by, they do not only own the land but also control people lives by implementing laws that will serve their interest up to present time.

There are also laws made concerning medicine and healthcare that forbid the use of our indigenous practices but instead use what is prescribed by the modern one. With the continues use of modern synthetic medicine, they also have the power to modify our DNA that will conform to their will. From our birth to our death, Modern Medicine has rule over us. They are the only one who is allowed to perform procedures on which our ancestors before us called as ritual in birthing as well as in funeral.

Before Anxiety and Depression is relieved by our Babaylan through rituals and meditation, now Modern Medicine prescribed drugs to tame it or lessen its effect unlike the Babaylan ways of changing it by teaching us how to control it. The focus of modern medicine is more mundane and carnal that it aims to control not only the cells of our body but also into the atomic level. But for us as Binabaylan Hilot we balance the Body and those level to the soul that gives life.

Recently my focus on study is about mental health. The problem of Drug Addiction, Juvenile Delinquency, Criminal mindset and so on… This i do probably as one of my Vow as dedicated Member of the Correllian Order of Peace Weaver. Though i don’t have the solution yet, but i already have found an answer why it happened to person.

The answer is due to the progress of the Soul within the person. In our studies we teach that each individual has 7 souls. As the time a child is born he or she receives his soul gradually. I also found that at the moment of Coitus, the union of Egg and Sperm Cell- the Spirit of Life begins to form. This union of cells become the Ancestral Soul of Life that made an Individual to be both Male and Female.

As individual we are both gender as Male and Female, because a Man could not germinate a baby without female nor a female can give birth without male. So the Power of Creation is present in the Union of this Power.

As the Baby come out of the womb, we know it is alive because of the First soul that comes with the Baby and we call it as ULIRAT. The Force or electricity of Life that was made from the union of the cells.

Then the next soul will come. We see this when the Baby is Placed to the breast of the Mother. On this stage, sensation is being developed to a child so as the intuition. This soul becomes the Child Muwang. The purity of the soul that has no Malice sucking divine milk from her mothers breast.

As the Baby grow s/he is introduced to the Community where the baby will receive his/her 3rd soul which is Malay. And this stage as i see is a very critical stage for the child where the child will be influenced by the people in his environment. What ever the Child see will become normal and correct that s/he will bring it up until adulthood. On this stage of Soul Progression, as an Adult we have a role on how we mold the child behavior towards live as the behavior is also a soul which we call as Bait/ katinuan.

This is the reason why religion comes in by having Child Baptism. The Church want to influence the development of the Child Kamalayan. and this continue in school as well as in social media and the Government. Now what ever the child adopt when s/he grows becomes the poison that we as Hilot Binabaylan must cure. And we can not do that by simply doing Massage or Tawas.

Everyone must level up to the Highest Calling as Hilot Binabaylan and that is to become a Teacher of Life.

Going Natural is what do Hilot teach us

Yesterday i made an Exhortation to our Academy about our Philippine Traditional Medicine which is Hilot. We emphasized yesterday that Hilot being our very own Traditional Medicine in the Philippine is not an exclusive modality but an inclusive one. As a Healing provider we do not discriminate people whether they are male or female, young or old, rich or poor, native or foreigner; All deserve to experience Hilot. So it does not matter when you have money or not in having Hilot, as long as you have a genuine need that will give out respect also to our Modality in Healing.

This is also the reason why we do not do Home Service Treatment because we want to inculcate to our patient their own responsibility to value Life and their Health. Pampering is not our Forte in Healthcare because we do not tolerate irresponsibility of an individual towards their health that will lead to great illness. As Manghihilot we stand as Teachers of Life, this is also the reason why during treatment session in Hilot there is an active communication between the provider and the receiver because the provider becomes a medium for the internal organs to communicate to the consciousness of the receiver.

52774181_10155683585616537_3824163825804902400_o In learning Hilot Binabaylan, we do not focus on teaching massage as our Battle Cry tell that Hilot is not a massage though we have Hilot Pahid but this is just only one modality that you can find in Hilot. If people will approach us and ask us to learn Massage i am directing them to Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) or PALMT (Philippine Association of Licensed Massage Therapist) to learn the Art and Science of Massage. But here in Hilot Academy we focus on the Wholeness of the individual and in order for us to understand the situation of our patient we also need to deal with their Soul.

This aspect of Hilot being a Soul Healing Modality is what TESDA and DoH are refraining to touch; and with this reason our Academy is not accredited of any government institution not because we do not qualify to their standard but because their standard do not qualify to ours.

It is stated in our Mission that:

HABI works on reviving the folkloric aspect of Hilot by bridging the gap of mysticsm into a more acceptable Scientific approach in Primary Healthcare.

And with this, Elimination will not help in the preservation and promotion of Hilot as Philippine Traditional Medicine but will only create discrimination among the practitioner like what is happening now within the Industry of Massage Therapy in the Philippines.

As Hilot, our treatment modality is not limited to commercialism and capitalism. We see Mother Nature as the Great Healer and Provider as she provides food and medicine for the common people. We believe that our Medicine can be easily found in our backyard as well as in our neighborhood. We just need to learn to communicate with mother nature to tell us what can supply our needs.

hilot paltera.png Our Ancestors, the early Manghihilot and Babaylan that lives before us; they are not a degree holder, uneducated and have no license in practicing their craft but they know well about the healing herbs as well as on what procedure they will perform in healing the sick and in giving cure to disease. But now-a-days, the Wisdom and Knowledge of our ancestors are being discredited because of the standardization. The Great Healers of the old years are now Quack Doctors of this generation. The Hilot Paltera/ Nagpapaanak becomes criminal because of the current governing laws that forbid the practice of attending to birth unless you are a medical professional accredited by the Law of the land.

What can you see? What story does it tell?

A Japanese artist went to me for Hilot. So i give her Hilot and start with Tawas Ritual. I prepare a glass of water and raw egg and start to pray and make the egg touch the body parts of the client which are the gate way for the soul. After prayer i break gently the egg into the glass of water and it started to form shape so as telling its stories.

Raw Egg broken into a glass of water is a divinatory method that is categorized as Scrying. The raw egg and the glass of water is the medium and the interpreter is the channel for the messages of the soul (higher and lower self of the client) whom the Manghihilot have contacted to communicate with.

Each shape that been formed in the glass tell specific stories. Even the way how the egg is brocken tells specific areas of the clients life. Each stories may refer to situations, and each situations may tell the condition of the wellness of the client where the manghihilot must determine which body organs radiating that situation.

Tawas is not just a Divinatory Art that tells a story. Because the story that been told by tawas is your own story which the Manghihilot would channel to locate the areas in your life that needs attention.
