Answer the Call of the Ancestors
The Certificate Program on Albularyo / Mananambal / Indigenous Filipino Herbalist is a sacred and comprehensive online certification program designed for individuals called to walk the ancestral path of traditional Filipino healing. Rooted deeply in pre-colonial animist philosophy, the Binabaylan lineage, and Indigenous Filipino healing traditions, the program seeks to preserve, protect, and transmit the ancestral knowledge of Filipino herbal medicine for future generations.
Delivered entirely through a dedicated distance learning platform, students complete their coursework using Google Classroom, where they gain access to learning modules, readings, assignments, research activities, course materials, assessments, and guided learning exercises. This flexible learning environment allows participants to study systematically while remaining actively engaged in the program regardless of geographic location.
To ensure academic integrity, competency development, and direct faculty supervision, student learning is formally validated through scheduled live video conferencing sessions conducted via Google Meet. These sessions serve as opportunities for lectures, discussions, oral examinations, mentoring, case presentations, practical demonstrations, skills validation, and competency assessments under the guidance of academy instructors.
The program centers on the traditional ways of medicine-making practiced by Albularyo, Mananambal, and Binabaylan healers, where the identification, harvesting, preparation, and application of medicinal plants are informed not only by observation and experience but also by intuition, dreams, spiritual sensitivity, ancestral guidance, and orally transmitted indigenous wisdom.
Throughout the program, students will explore the sacred relationship between people, plants, spirit, and environment while developing a deeper understanding of traditional Filipino concepts of health, wellness, and healing. Learners will study medicinal plants, herbal preparations, traditional classification systems, ethical harvesting methods, and the spiritual dimensions of Indigenous Filipino herbalism.
Students will be trained as stewards of both the land and ancestral knowledge, learning to recognize the ecological, seasonal, and energetic cycles that influence the bisa (healing potency) of medicinal plants. Through structured online learning, independent field observations within their own communities, guided assignments, and competency validation through Google Meet, participants will develop the knowledge, skills, and cultural sensitivity necessary to responsibly practice and preserve Indigenous Filipino herbal traditions.
Upon successful completion of all academic requirements, course assessments, competency validations, and program evaluations, graduates will be awarded the designation of Certified Albularyo / Mananambal / Indigenous Filipino Herbalist, signifying foundational competency in traditional Filipino herbal medicine, ancestral plant wisdom, and culturally grounded approaches to healing and wellness.
Course Overview
Course Description
This program contrasts traditional gathering ethics—grounded in kapwa (shared identity), reciprocity, and respect for nature spirits (diwata and tagalugar)—with modern commercialism. Participants will study the precise timing of harvest based on lunar phases, the liturgical calendar (such as the Pangalap traditions), and environmental signs.
The training covers:
- Remedy Compounding: Crafting preparations for both physical pathogens (likas na sakit) and spiritual/metaphysical afflictions (sakit sa gawa).
- Esoteric Folk Traditions: Ethnographically respectful instruction in the dynamics of Gayuma (affection/attraction energies).
- Talismanic Arts: Crafting, charging, and activating Anting-anting (amulets), Birtud (charms), and Mutya (talismans).
This program bridges the physical earth with the unseen spirit world, producing practitioners who serve as living custodians of indigenous Filipino cosmic balance.
Primary Objectives
- Awaken Intuitive & Spiritual Faculties: Cultivate the capacity to channel spirit guides (abyan or gabay), interpret diagnostic dreams, and listen to plant consciousness.
- Foster Earth Stewardship: Deepen the practitioner’s relationship with the land through conservation, ecological protection, and communication with nature spirits.
- Preserve Esoteric Knowledge Systems: Document and transmit authentic folk traditions without stripping them of their spiritual sovereignty.
- Define Sacred Ethics vs. Commercialism: Prioritize communal healing, kapwa ethics, and spiritual integrity over commercial exploitation.
Core Learning Competencies
Upon successful completion, graduates will master four core pillars:
| Pillar | Competencies Achieved |
| I. Ancestral Philosophy | • Treating plants as living spiritual entities with bisa. • Defending small-batch, ritual-first medicine over mass production. |
| II. Intuitive Gathering & Timing | • Using orasyon (prayer) to determine unique herbal combinations. • Synchronizing harvests with lunar phases and Good Friday Pangalap. • Executing pag-aalay (offerings) and paalam (asking permission from engkanto). |
| III. Traditional Medicine Making | • Processing wild herbs to preserve physical and spiritual essence. • Compounding traditional preparations (panyos, langis, dekoksyons, tapal). • Ritualizing remedies to counteract kulam, na-buyag, or na-engkanto. |
| IV. Folk Traditions & Esoteric Arts | • Navigating the karmic laws and mechanics of Gayuma. • Consecrating and activating Anting-anting, Birtud, Mutya, and panyo na may orasyon. |
Conferment of Title
Upon successful completion of all prescribed learning outcomes, ceremonial initiations, and ancestral competency reviews, candidates will be formally conferred the title of Certified Albularyo, Mananambal, and Indigenous Filipino Herbalist.
This designation confirms official recognition by Hilot Academy as a qualified custodian of the old ways, certifying your ethical readiness to serve your community (kapwa) and preserve the pre-colonial spiritual lineage of the Philippines.
