Philippine Traditional Hilot is not just a Physical Touch Massage Therapy that could remove body pain of the person but also a method of healing where we could also heal the past. And indeed Hilot is for the Filipino People, that is why the Filipino deserve to learn this modality for Free.

Hilot is not just a Massage

Many people misunderstood hilot as a relaxing massage. Even TESDA is guilty about introducing Hilot as a wellness Massage.For everyones information, Hilot is not just Massage but it is a Holistic Indigeneous Learnable Operational Treatment modality. It aims to Heal by harmonizing enhancing and alleviating life of the people.
Hilot uses Halaman, Init, Liwanag, Orasyon and Tubig in their healing modality.
It has a process of thorough client profiling and investigative procedure to determine the client/patients illness (hilot diagnostic/ scanning) ; cleansing procedure (banyos, suob, hilod and paligo); treatment and rehabilitative process.
The medicine used by hilot can be taken as food, drink, applied to the skin or can be worn to the body as ornament.
Hilot is the Traditional and Natural Medicine in the Philippines. Traditional Birth Attendants are also Hilot so as the bone setters.
Hilot is not only limited in treating the physical disEase of the person but also extends its healing power in giving solution to the problem of emotion as well as of the mind.
Hilot can be also given to place such as hilot for the home/ house, community, country and even for the Earth and Universe.

Valuing Health

Hilot values the health of every client thus we teach our clients to value their health too. Being too busy is not an excuse for an individual to neglect their own health.

The Hilot Binabaylan follows the Universal and Natural Laws. We start our work as the sun rises till the sun set, seven days a week, and four weeks a month.

We acknowledge that each individual has also tight schedule from work but still it is not an excuse to be lazy in taking care of your own wellness.

If you are an employed individual at least you either have 1 or 2 day off that you can use for a Hilot treatment. Or even if you dont have a day off, it is must that you set an appointment to have your hilot treatment done for you.

Hilot does not do Home or Hotel Service to anyone, except that if the individual is about to deliver birth or on his/her death bed.Other condition where a Hilot provide a home treatment is when the individual had a stroke and is paralyzed. This condition requires medical abstract and recommendation from the patients attending Physician.

Bentusa

Hilot is a diverse modality of natural healing and bentusa is one of the most effective method of affecting cure employed in hilot.

Bentusa or Fire Cupping serves two function: first is for Diagnosis and secondly is for affecting cure.

There are four methods of applying bentusa to the body. First is the retention method which use 6 to 8 cups placed on the side of the spine to be retained on the body for about 5 to 10 minutes which serve as diagnostic tool in hilot.

Second is the rolling or moving method that involves two cups to be glided on the body.

Third is the popping method; and lastly is the wet method which you will lacerate the dark red mark produced in applying the cups on the skin.

Stress Free Healing Modality

In the olden times (but not that too old enough because im just recalling my memories of having a hilot when i was child) there are no Hilot Center or establishment people could go anytime. We go to the hilot house and there we ask and recieve treatment directly.

Hilot does not do home service unless the situation of the patient is bed ridden or when the expected mother is about to deliver birth.

No scheduling. No appointment. People just go to the hilot house and get the treatment right away.

The Hilot provider stays in their home and make their home as a sanctuary of healing, health and wellness.

Hilot in order to be an effective healer, S/he stays in his/her home and consecrate it as their healing center.

At home the tools of healing are accessible even the access to spiritual powers are present because the Home of the Hilot is the access point of the Diwata and Anito.

Now-a-days, the so called hilot treatment are commercialized in Spa Centers but it lack the touch of Spirituality of our Ancestors that Hilot is the Gift of the Divine for the Common People of the world.

The Hilot devotes his/her life in implementing the law of nature in her/his personal life as well as to the life of the patient.

The Hilot relieve stress, so the Hilot must also stress Free.

Preserving the Healing Tradition

In starting the current class session of Hilot ng Aghamang Binabaylan, i ask my foreign students if they know their countries Traditional and Natural Medicine; and they say they are not aware or familiar about it because everyone is infused with modernization but probably they have.

As Filipino, we in Hilot Academy are proud to say that it is our mission to preserve our Traditional and Natural Healing Arts.

If in Belarus they have the healing wispherers, we have too which are the Hilot Binabaylan that use Orasyon.

Do Hilot absorbs negative energies of the Client?

A question been asked to me by a client after our Binabaylan Hilot Session, and her question is that do Hilot absorb negative energy from the client? And my response is No we do not absorb negative energy but we transform the negative energy into a positive energy.

I believe as a Hilot, we heal people because we are a vessel of overflowing positive energies from the Divine. As this energy overflow, we transfer it to our client that has negative energy and fill it up until the client will spill over all negative energies and be filled with positive energies that a Hilot has.

Another way the Hilot absorb the negative energy of the client is through the use of Banana Leaf during the Pagsasala (Filtering) Ritual.

The work of Hilot

Hilot is not only about giving a sequential massage, but it is about knowing the client/patient well and providing the best possible treatment that a client/patient could ever have.

The treatment of Hilot is not a sensual pleasure but it can be a painful relief and satisfaction.

As a Hilot provider, we do not follow programed sequential movement but we analyze and evaluate first our client/patient to plan an appropriate treatment modality we could aplly in providing relief or cure to our Client/Patient chief complaint and expectations.

Pilay

Pilay is unique Filipino word that been used by Hilot that has no definite word in English; but generally it refers to the cause of persons illness.

When you ask a Filipino to define Pilay, they may say that it means a broken bone or twisted nerve or sprain; but to simply describe what Pilay is it means broken.

In Hilot Academy we teach that wellness and illness is the result of applying the natural and universal law. If you follow the law you will obtain wellness; but when you break the law, then you will get I’ll.

Illness is the result of breaking the law; and Wellness is the reward for following the law.

When we get sick, the role of Hilot is to rehabilitate us so that balance and harmony will resume it’s work in us so that we may obtain good health and wellness.

The Hilot address the Pilay by doing the Pagpupulso as well as by pagsasala. In this process, the hilot serves as a judge in determining the amount of malady the person does and balancing the elements which the person’s lack so that wellness may resume.

Life and Death

Practicing Hilot is a sacred duty of balancing life and death. As Hilot we sustain and maintain life through the techniques we employ in our treatment thus we prevent the early cause of death; and in Death hilot takes part of the role in bringing back the spirit into the universe.

I learn hilot as a Spiritual and Cultural Heritage of the Filipino People through the Myth of Kabunian in creating the first humans; and through the same act of creation the God ordained humans to be the vessel of life in the world.

Giving, Sustaining and Maintaining Life is the Purpose of Hilot.

Thus, me as a Hilot, i live by giving/ providing Hilot to the people.

Yes when i mean “i live”, i make Hilot as a form of income generating livelihood where i provide my services for a reasonable fee. As a Hilot provider, i also need to maintain my life too.

Maintaining life is not only in the Physical sense but also through intellectual, emotional and social sense. The spirituality of Hilot makes these four other aspect in balance and harmony to one another.

Balancing the Physical to all other aspect of our being makes us whole.

Since Hilot is a powerful tool in maintaing life, let us use this method of healing with awe and respect. Hilot can promote Life but abusing the promotive powers of Hilot (massage) into sexual pleasure becomes destructive force in a form of lust thus becoming into prostitution.

Using this form of healing disqualify a practitioner of becoming hilot but instead he or she is better be called as a prostitute.

Since Hilot follows the Universal and Natural Law, those who give authentic Hilot can be found where the sunrises and they rest when the sunsets.

Hilot is a noble profession and a spirtual vocation, so let us not desecrate it by involving our craft into prostitution.
