Hilot Homecoming!

Gerone and Jeremy receives their Certificate of Training in Hilot ng Aghamang Binabaylan and Sibulan Adlaw Tala Baybayin Mystic Oracle Attunement.

Last August 25, 2022- me and lakay had an opportunity to have a lunch date with our Hilot Academy Graduates from France and they are a couple name Jeremy Pascal who is an Engineer and a Fermentation Guro who shares to us Water Kerfir Grain that we ferment to become a Pro Biotic Drink and Gerone Pascal who is a Filipina Yoga Teacher. They have taken our Hilot ng Aghamang Binabaylan Class for 9 days face-to-face last September 2019. Gerone and Jeremy were our First Couple who have taken our Face-to-face Hilot Class before the Pandemic.

Lunch date with Gerone and Jeremy after 3 years. Before i used to cook for them now they have treated me with a Great Lunch!

From my experience of Face-to-Face teaching, supposedly as teachers-we are the one who is transferring our technology to our students but having an in person interaction, I as teacher is also learning from them. Of course during their 9 days of staying with us, it is not 24 hours of making Hilot but there are free time we used to relax and do other things. So meeting them again in person brings back the memories i had with them including the time between that day to now. Because, even that they have finished taking the course, our line of communication are very much open in supporting their practice of Hilot.

Dr. Chris Lipat DC of Hawaii meeting in person for the First Time

I feel like I have organically been in the process of becoming manghihilot as my combined chiropractic and energy work practice includes addressing emotional, nutritional and increasingly energetic/spiritual components. I’m excited to be able to finally learn my traditional medicine to expand on what I have been intuitively doing!

Dr. Chris Lipat in her response on Why do you want 8/5/2020

Dr. Chris Lipat were among the first who took our online class during the time of Pandemic. Though traditionally Hilot is learned by individual through apprenticeship and should be done face-to-face as healing with hilot requires personal touch that the patient may receive the healing of Hilot. But the Pandemic of Covid 19 have changed this belief that allows me to contemplate deeper on the modalities of Hilot. This why the NCH-MSW class has been born which we teach online how to do tawas. And with the line of expertise of Dr. Chris Lipat, she have manifested to me how energy works not only in face-to-face but also distantly. She also have mentioned yesterday, that usually meeting with other person for the first time has the feeling of being stranger, but since we had been in touch online for how many months, that feeling of being stranger is gone but you have developed trust to one another.

I am grateful for yesterday meeting that I was able to experience the Energy Medicine that Dr. Chris have brought along with her though before meeting i courageously ask Dr. Chris about it because i don’t usually ask that to my students but this time, i acknowledge my current limitations and have asked Dr. Chris Lipat to work on me. And the session that i have received is somewhat life changing experience as it does not only deal with my current health issues but also have opened up a portal that addressed my issues not only to my current past life but also beyond my current life existence. The Energy Medicine that Dr. Chris have developed was already written in her book that you can find through Amazon’s Kindle and the Book Title is Knowing: The Intuitive’s guide for Transformative Healing. Then as of writing this, Dr. Chris is already preparing to go back to Hawaii as she will have an in person workshop on September 10. For more details about her public offerings kindly visit her website at www.drchrislipat.com

Schooling the Manghihilot

Have you remember that our parents have said that we should study hard so that we may land into a better paying job. Is this still true today?

In 2008 Technical Education Skills Development Authority have seen Hilot as employable skills that they created Hilot Training Standards and Regulation so that they may conduct National Assessment and Certification to manghihilot. With that they provide training to those who want to learn Hilot through schooling and for those who are unschooled but well skilled in Hilot they need to be assessed in order to be certified.

This year, we have participated in the talk between Philippine Institute of Traditional Alternative Health Care (PITAHC) and Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in terms of Certification of Hilot. But the current talk as of now revolves on the quality of services that a manghihilot provides. Well in terms of training it should be TESDA who will provide training just like in Commission on Higher Education they are the one who teach and Train the students and after they graduate they will apply license to Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC). The later was suggested by Dr. Isidro Sia former Director General of PITAHC. So let us let them who belongs to who but our main concern here is the future of our Manghihilot.

Let us be honest here, the skills of touching other people can be done by anyone such as in doing Massage. When I was a child I’ve been asked by parents to give the Hilot Massage either on head or legs. Everyone has a gift of touch when in times of emergency it is automatically activated. So as in our home, our parents have secret herbal formula that they use in times we are sick and out of budget going to the doctor. Having said this Regulating the Practice of Hilot by making its practitioners be Certified will give security towards public health but it will also give burden to our practitioners. But how is the manghihilot now-a-days even if they are certified? On what Industry will they fall if they received Standardized and Regulated Training? As I hear them out, these experts still think that a Manghihilot together with Massage Therapist work in a Spa which is a Hospitality Industry which is covered by the Department of Tourism.

Well it seems that our effort in telling that Hilot is part of Healthcare industry is wrong if all our graduates will fall into Spa Industry. But these must be properly addressed not only in terms of which industry should a graduate of Hilot must work? The issue here that i want to raise is to secure a Job for all manghihilot whether they are trained or recognized through assessment that upon compliance based on the Standards and Regulation, all manghihilot must have a descent job to work.

As of this moment, there are still many manghihilot who works at home in a donation basis system. Some who are schooled landed on a Spa where they do massage and other spa treatments. If they apply abroad their skills in Hilot is converted into massage so as if they apply in a cruise ship. These government agencies think of HIlot that is something to be proud of that they need to offer it to foreigners just to say that we have our own brand. Indeed we have but unfortunately we falsely advertise it by showing the wrong modality. As you browse on internet, you can always see articles telling Hilot as a Filipino Massage and there are some people in abroad call themselves as Hilot either because they are Filipino or have lived in the Philippines for a decade or two but what they make is Massage and not Hilot.

If a Manghihilot will be schooled at least at the end of schooling, they should land a better job which can give them security in their future. A schooled Manghihilot should have a Job that pays for their Social Security, Health Assurance and Pagibig Fund. Though some of our current practitioners have it by doing voluntary payment for their own SSS, Philhealth, and Pagibig.

If i have a right or authority, i do not want a manghihilot to work in a spa but instead they should be hired in Government Health Centers where people can avail the service of Hilot even that the people will not pay, PhilHealth insurance will cover it for the people.

The Work of Manghihilot

In reality, not all time people will need a manghihilot. Unlike Massage, Hilot can only be availed if you have a Pilay which is a condition that been treated with Hilot. Like what i’ve said, not everyday there are people who have pilay, so what other work can a manghihilot will do?

If our Government is really serious on uplifting the status of Hilot in the Philippines, aside from giving treatment, a Manghihilot can be a partner of PITAHC in conducting field research on Herbal Medicine. As field researcher they should be:

  • responsible in documenting herbs that is available in their respected barangay by going house to house and take pictures of the herbs that grow in their yard.
  • Take sample of the herbs and send it to PITAHC to further conduct research on the medicinal properties of the collected herbs.
  • Cultivate the sample herbs in the Barangay Botanical Garden.
  • Process the approved herbs into herbal medicine such as in making oils, soap, tea, capsules, syrup, etc. in PITAHC Laboratory.
  • becomes a sales partner of PITAHC in distributing approved herbs.

With that being said on the possible job that a manghihilot should perform, when schooled the manghihilot should be properly equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitude in performing the said job description.

So when a Manghihilot is properly Certified a secure jobs awaits them in the Philippines. And these will also grow as there are a lot more jobs that a manghihilot can do in the Field of Philippine Traditional and Indigenous Health Care.

No Home Service Massage

It is very common now-a-days to have a massage at the Comfort of our Homes. I think that is okay if your Massage provider is a Family Member such as you husband, wife, son or Daughter. But hiring a Massage Therapist to indulge you in your home or hotel room is Illegal.

The practice of Massage in the Philippines has been established through the Presidential Decree 856 or known as The Sanitation Code of the Philippines.

According to this law:

NO Masseurs shall be allowed to practice their profession without first securing a Certificate of Registration issued by the Committee of Examiners of Massage Therapy.

Sec 4.1.1 Chapter 13 Sanitation Code of the Philippines

Aside from Certificate of Registration of Masseurs, the law also prescribed the workplace where a Registered Masseur should render their Services. In Section 3 of Chapter 13 in 3.1 it is said that:

No Massage Clinic or Sauna Bath establishment shall open and operate for public patronage without a Sanitary Permit issued by a local health officer. It even state that in 3.2. that Any extension or additional construction or alteration in an establishment shall require a new sanitary permit before it could be operated.

This mean the clients room unless it is part of your massage clinic must be inspected first and applied for a sanitary permit before you can render massage.

In Section 5 of the law, it states the Structural Requirement in establishing a Massage Clinic that includes:

  • Standard Flooring
  • Walls
  • Ceiling
  • Lighting
  • Ventilation
  • Change Rooms
  • Reception Rooms
  • Treatment (Massage) Rooms

Home Service Massage Workers do not comply on this government requirements in providing their Massage Services thus in accordance to the law: Any person who shall violate, disobey, omit or neglect to comply with any of the provision of this rules and regulation shall be guilty of misdemeanor that is punishable of 6 months imprisonment.

How much is the cost of Hilot in your Area?

The Philippines is probably has the cheapest Hilot services offered compared to other countries that i found where Hilot is being offered.

From YK Hilot Center in Tolyo, Japan

So 15,000 Japanese yen today is equivalent to Php 6, 119.16 in Philippine money and that is for 2 hours of Hilot Treatment.

I also saw a Treatment center that offers Hilot in Madrid, Spain and the name of the Center is Xiao Ying.

And the cost of their 60 minutes Hilot is 60.00€ which is equivalent to Philippine Peso as 3, 412.69 and their 2 hours session cost 110€ equivalent to Philippine peso as 6,256.60.

Another center that I found offering Hilot is located in Canada.

Their 60 minutes Hilot Massage cost already $120 in US Dollars while their 2 hours session will cost $230.00, if $120.00 converted into Philippine peso as of writing this, it will cost around Php 6,766.80 for one hour treatment and for 120 minutes or 2 hours treatment session cost Php 12,969.70.

This is an Eyebrow rising cost that i knew. Well I understand why the price is too much comparing the price of Hilot being offered here in the Philippines.

I saw some day spa who offered hilot posted in their facebook page, and the price of their hilot is this:

60 minutes of Hilot in the Philippines is only USD 5.00 and USD 10.00 for 120 minutes

Well Filipino Hilot Providers who offers authentic Philippine Traditional Medicine are not compensated well, and this is the reason why some of them are holding tight to the edge of the blade or what we say as “kapit sa patalim”.

The Filipino Culture of colonial mentality have buried deeply our dignity almost already into oblivion. This is the reason why Hilot Academy and Luntiang Aghama is working hard to raise the standard of Hilot in the Philippines so that our dignity may be elevated again. Providing our Manghihilot proper education will enable them to perform Hilot in a more professional level that will allow them to work in Public Health Care centers of even in Private Health clinics or hospital.

There are so much Job opportunity as i see for our Hilot Practitioners. Not only in Spa. Let us leave the Spa to our Massage Therapist siblings. We can establish our own Hilot Healing Center where it can be a coordinating center with the Philippine Health department, social work and development, agriculture so as the Environment and Natural Resources. We are more than a Therapist, but we are also the Steward of Mother Earth.

VANGELO DELLE STREGHE – Creationism

The Book of Genesis nor the theory of Evolution are not the only sole resources that could explain the existence of Man. In my vlog at Luntiang Aghama, we have explained that before our country has been named as the Philippines, this archipelago in the Far East is composed of many Tribal Nations which we identify through their Ethnic Languages. Aside from their language, we will also recognize their culture, lifestyle and Spiritual Beliefs and practices. From that, we will also learn from their myths and folk stories how things started so as the creation of Man.

Vangelo Delle Streghe was an allegory written by an American Folklorist named Charles Godfrey Leland, which according my understanding is a collection of Legends fore told by the Aradian Witches of Italy.

In this story comparing to the Creation of Man, in the Book of Genesis, God made man with a clay which is also similar to the Story of Kabunyian when he created man using clay; but in the Vangelo del Streghe, we can see that Human existence is a direct manifestation of the Goddess Diana her self in her longing to be reunited again with her other self which is the God.

I first learned this story in the Correllian Seminary when I am taking my First Degree Priesthood and because of our activity in our YouTube Channel which is at http://www.youtube.com/luntiangaghama I was asked this question about the existence of man that makes me to post this here.

Healthy Mind Set to become Pain Free

At the start of this week, an old woman came to us asking us to help her treat her husband. I am tempted to reject her request as I my self have a condition which is I am still recovering from stroke. Supposedly mid June till the coming of July, I experience constant dizziness that I am not confident enough if I could handle a client/patient. But the calling to do Hilot is much greater than my stroke. The Ancestors have reminded me why I was allowed to suffer my condition, but I also pray, what if i used all my strength in extending the life of others, will there be life that will left to me? But the Spirit just tell me to go.

So me and lakay went with the woman riding in the tricycle and bring us to their house. As we arrived, this is what we see.

on their balcony, i see a man in his 50’s lying on a wooden sofa not moving.

Before entering their house, I picked a twig of leaves from an Indian Tree that is planted in their front yard and i used that to swipe the air as i enter their house and stamp my feet. We give our greetings and introduce our selves to the patient. As we talk to the man, we see that he is responding to us very well except that he could not make any movements from his body as it give him so much pain.

Then we start giving our treatment procedures. Lakay do Spiritual Tawas while Me i do Physical Assessment by palpating on his body. He is complaining about his joints in the hands, elbows, shoulder, hips, knees and feet and his whole back is aching because of constant lying ( and maybe because of the hard wood that serve as his bed).

The woman’s reason of calling us is that she wanted us to see first his husband before sending him to the Hospital. Though they have fear that his husband will be confined and aside from that they have financial issues as well that they seek help from us first for an temporary relief on Mr. Noel’s pain.

@apuadman

Thanks Goddess i am doing Home Visitation Hilot again for a bed ridden patient/client. I dont usually do home service to anyone except to life and death situation. if you need my service come to the Shrine.#FilipinoPaganPriest #HilotBinabaylan

At that time, i didn’t mind my own condition and I teared in joy because as I assess the man, i feel the life force in the man’s body and re assuring me that he will live. His body is very warm and the life force is present. The only thing that makes him like that is because of many blockages that build up on his vessels. So i give him Hilot pahid and do the healing touch manipulation. Though Lakay saw some little spiritual issues and have spoken it to him together with his wife and gave recommendation on how to deal with it. Same thing that I do, i advise them to see doctor but not recommend for confinement just go to the Out Patient Department and ask to manage the pain. I see many calcium deposit that build up in his fingers and joints. And he limits his movement because of the pain he is experiencing.

Sometime, people torment themselves in order to prevent them experiencing the pain. But their behavior only makes them experience more and suffer. Their non movement slow down the flow of life force that it build up to form blockages that makes them suffer more pain than relief.

And I believe, this healing session that I attended was not only for Mr. Noel but also for me. The more I Baby my illness, the more it will become worst. And going back to my routine of giving Hilot makes my body to have a sense of Purpose.

But I still have to be careful and not just waste my own lifeforce for a non sense.

Here what I learned is that, We want to Live a Pain Free Life, but in doing it we have to encounter some pain and problem that we might also build up our body to become resistant to pain or problem.

By the way, i still experience occasional dizziness and I notice i get dizzy when I change position like when I immediately turn my neck or standing from sitting or from lying down to standing up.

By next Monday i will check with my doctor, because i already have my CT scan that i made last monday.

Tomorrow, me and lakay will be at Silang, Cavite to inspect the venue for our new Hilot Healing Center.

New Online Training Program to offer soon!

As part of our Distance Learning and Continuing Education Program at Hilot Academy of Binabaylan. I am excited to announce the creation of Hilot Manggagamot Training to be offered soon.

Cover page of our new training program featuring Apu Adman’s Hilot Wellness Class in Brgy. Pasong Putik, Quezon City on 2009.

If you have taken our Non Contact Hilot: Mind and Spirit work and been certified as Magaanito/Magtatawas; this new training program will complement your previous certification and will gain the Hilot Manggagamot Certification.

Our Hilot Manggagamot Training program aims to enable our students to be competent in the following:

  1. Determine client/patient’s nature of illness by conducting Hilot Profiling.
  2. Initiate Therapeutic Communication in gathering client/patient information in determining the nature of illness.
  3. Perform Hilot Physical Assessment to examine clients/patient body part that are affected by an illness.
  4. Plan the method of Hilot treatment
  5. Apply Hilot method technique.
  6. Provide post/ after hilot treatment advice and home care supplementation as needed.

As you can see that there is also a physical method of tawas or determining the cause of illness; and this is what everyone should learn which is the Hilot Physical Assessment so as the Hilot Treatment Methodology which is not only limited in giving Hagod, Pindot as a form of massage.

We will run a test training if our program is feasible for online training and if not, we can arrange a face-to-face training soon hopefully by 2023.

Let me know if you are interested by making comment on this post.

Thank You!

Misusing Title as Hilot or Babaylan

Now-a-days, people who can afford to access the internet empowers to access information on which they will not exert more effort unlike before. As a student of the 90’s, if we need to learn some information, we used to go to the library and look for books that can provide the information we need to know. Or if there are no books about the subject, we conduct our own research by conducting interview or apply for apprenticeship. These is how i learn Hilot. At that time there is no book written about Hilot nor a school that teach Traditional Hilot as the Law on Philippine Traditional and Alternative Health Care was only enacted on 1997. Only at that time that Alternative Health Care was given attention and not Hilot. And on 2002, i formally receive my diploma in Alternative Medicine but not on Hilot.

Diploma in Alternative Medicine

I worked obtaining this diploma for only a Year, but mastering what I am right now takes a life time of research and practice. The diploma that i have lead me to focus on Philippine Traditional Medicine that makes me conduct research and clinical training by accepting clients that undergone certain condition which can be treated by Hilot. As i practice, I revolve around the principles of natural healing that says that:

Every Individual has the ability to heal them selves and as a healer, we are only an assistant in order for them to achieve their own healing.

It is the same claim that i always hear from traditional healers that the true healer is God our Creator and as Healer we are just an instrument of God like a bridge where God can channel the Blessings to the people.

Here by constantly dealing with people by hearing out their concerns in life either they have physical complaint about their health or just hearing out their emotions, there is a part within me that moved that tells me to take action and that action is called Hilot. The action that a Manghihilot do may vary depend on the situation presented, but the common action a manghihilot does whether it be on physical pain or emotional complaint is that a manghihilot will get his bottle of healing oil and apply it to the suffering person to provide relief.

Now at present time, relief from emotional trauma can be covered up by accessing social media. People can solicit sympathy and compassion by making statements or posting pictures of their situation. Even is they want to know something, people will just get their mobile phone connect it to the internet and type their questions to google and they will have the answers to what they are looking for.

And there are some people uses what they know out of Google and call them selves with Titles. Such as the title of being a Manghihilot or Babaylan. Since there is no definite law that forbids anyone to call them as such, so people could easily claim them as such unlike the Title of being a Doctor, if you are a Massage Therapist in the Philippines there is a specific law that forbids you to do as such unless you are a real doctor being conferred by the Professional Regulatory Commission.

As of this date, there is no Philippine regulatory body that regulates the practice of Hilot except for the Philippine Institute of Traditional Alternative Health Care but there is no clear policy yet on penalizing anyone who will misuse the Title of Manghihilot or of the Babaylan.

In Hilot Academy we are working hard for 7 straight years now in bringing awareness to the Public about Hilot, but still many people, either Filipino or foreigners are still unaware of what Hilot is all about. Many people still think that Hilot is Filipino Massage because many website tell it so. But real information about Hilot is rare to find. Even Spa Businesses in the Philippines would think that Hilot is about massage where it is not.

I really pray that a Hilot Commission will be created that will really focus on the Development of Hilot as Philippine Traditional Medicine.

Preserving our Ancestral Healing Tradition

Our participation in creating a Standard Competency Standards for National Certification and Accreditation of Hilot Practitioners, Training Institution and Hilot Healing Center has one of its aim in preservation of the Philippine Ancestral Healing Arts and Science.

Throughout the History, the definition of Hilot have been evolved through Generations.

First during the precolonial times, Hilot has been known to be the only medicine for the common people. During those time, our ancestors have power over caring for their own health by employing thier own knowledge and skills so as their behavior towards our natural resources as a form of medicine.

During the Colonial Period, Hilot has become a liberating modality not only in terms of freeing an individual from physical ailments but also from emotional disturbance and mental disabilities.

Still on the Spanish rule that extends to the American Occupation, Hilot becomes a life changing modality that gives woman the power to exercise their power of choice. Hilot has been used for abortion thats free the woman from the responsibility of taking care a new life within their body. Though later on the act of abortion has been criminalized so as the Practice of Hilot on Pregnancy as well as on Maternal Healthcare.

Later on Hilot has become a modality of luxury, where people can avail its services on a Hotel so as in a High End Spa. Now that we are in the 21st century, we are redefining Hilot as we integrate it into our National Healthcare delivery system. And lastly, Hilot becomes our Windows in the past and we dont just see it like in the museum but we can experience it; thus hilot becomes our ancestral and cultural heritage.

Hilot Development Plan

As the World will open to face-to-face interaction, We are also preparing for new Hilot Program that we will offer to the public through our Training Program we develop for International School of Sustainable Tourism.

The International School of Sustainable Tourism (ISST) is a private non-stock and non-profit corporation established in 2010 in the Philippines. It is an organization dedicated to education and technical training of manpower to develop, promote and viably operate sustainable tourism in the Philippines and other ASEAN countries. Also, it is dedicated to the upliftment of the lives of the people of communities with ecological resources that need to be preserved and can be sustainably used for tourism.

As of this moment at the time of Pandemic, Hilot Academy offers the non touch aspect of hilot which is the Traditional Diagnostic and Divinatory Course through our Non Contact Hilot: Mind and Spirit Work. Since June of 2020, we have produced graduates coming from different part of the world who completed our training program. Now, even that we are still in the Pandemic Situation, we are already preparing for the possibility of face-to-face learning that we make partnership with ISST through Hilot Philippines Development Center or HPDC.

HPDC is a private organization within ISST that aims to promote and preserve Hilot or Traditional Filipino Medicine that could be incorporated into Eco Tourism and Agri- Tourism. With this goal we have developed a 6 tier Training Program that will create personalities to sustain this Healing aspect of our Culture and Tradition.

With all training program it will start with the Basics which we call Hilot Treatment Application Course. This is a 5 days face-to-face training, that will introduce you to the Healing touch approach of Hilot. When I say Healing Touch, your fingers and hands will really make connection to the body of the person and apply the necessary techniques in order to affect cure. So those who graduated from us the Non- Contact Hilot are advised to take this class as this will complement your skills in conducting diagnostic procedures of Hilot.

We also have designed the Hilot Healing Water Treatment Course which is an advance method of Hilot Healing that employs the Use of Water. We also have a Training Course on Basic Entrpreneurship and Business Management so that our Graduates will have a skills, knowledge and attitude in marketing, selling their acquired skills either through employment or starting to have a Hilot Healing Center in their own.

We also have a Mastery Class that will ground the practitioners to the Fundamental Principles of Hilot Healing and that is through our Remedial Hilot Class and Hilot Diagnostic Method Class.

Of course we do not just envision our graduates to become a practitioner and entrepreneur, but we also see them to become a potential trainer/ teacher of Hilot that will stand side-by-side with us in preserving our Ancestral Healing Tradition through our Trainers Training Class.

As we establish this Training Program, we are also working out to integrate our Manghihilot to the Universal Health Care Delivery System by communicating with Government Agencies such as the Philippine Institute of Traditional Alternative Health Care, Department of Health, Department of Social Works and Development, Department of Science and Technology and other necessary agencies so that our Manghihilot could have local employment.

I believe that our Manghihilot is known as Primary Health Care Provider and they can be seen in our Local Government Unit which can be found in sitio, purok or Barangay; our manghihilot can be employed in Barangay as partners with Barangay Health Care Workers, they can be given task of providing preventive and promotive healthcare.

Our Manghihilot can also become an agent of Pithac within the Barangay by:

  • Conducting Research on Herbal Plants that Grows within the barangay. This can be done by doing house to house visitation, taking pictures, and asking the residents if they could have a sample of the plants that grows in their home.
  • Upon documentation, our Manghihilot will send the sample herbs to Pitahc for further conduct or laboratory research.
  • Our Manghihilot will cultivate the herbs by creating Brgy. Herbal Nursury which can grow different kinds of herbal medicine.
  • Our Manghihilot can process, the approved herbs into herbal tea, capsule, syrups which later can be distributed either for free or with minimum amount to its constituents.
