In a world where healing is often measured by degrees, diplomas, and monetary value, I stand firm in the belief that the gift of knowledge entrusted to me through Hilot is overflowing—not because of wealth or status, but because of the love and compassion that move me to serve.
I do not claim that I can heal every illness a person may suffer. My heart and mind simply tell me to help and share my energy with every individual who genuinely seeks healing. Like all traditional folk healers, I acknowledge this truth: we are not the ones who heal. We are instruments of the Divine, channels through which healing flows.
Traditional medicine teaches that every individual has the innate ability to heal themselves. We, as healers, are catalysts—facilitators of that process. This wisdom was echoed by Doctor Ruben M. Galang Jr., who taught us that healing is a partnership. Even if I were the greatest healer in the land, if the person does not participate in their own healing, no true healing can occur.
As a Hilot Binabaylan, I am deeply grateful to every patient who knocks on my door. Their trust is a sacred gift. I am equally grateful to the Anito and the Diwata for entrusting me with this ability to care—not only with compassion but also with the little knowledge of human science that complements our ancestral wisdom.
Today, I realize that being a healer is not about academic degrees, certificates, or diplomas. It is about the degree of love and care that moves you to heal an individual. Healing is priceless because it springs from the heart.
Why I Heal on a Donation Basis
This afternoon, I spoke with Cris, our custodian who tends to our chickens. I asked him why he thinks I offer Hilot on a donation basis or sometimes for free. He guessed that I do so because I earn through teaching Hilot. While that is partly true, it is not the whole story. Teaching does not always guarantee income—this year, I only had one class in Hawaii last August and one enrollee this December. What they pay is a small amount, enough to sustain our work at the Hilot Academy of Binabaylan.
The real reason is this: if I charged the same rates I once did in Makati—₱1,800 to ₱2,500 per hourly session—many in my community could not afford it. And what I give is priceless. Healing is not a commodity; it is a sacred act of service.
The Creed of Hilot Binabaylan
From this reflection, I offer these guiding principles for all who walk the path of Hilot Binabaylan:
1. We are instruments of the Divine. Healing flows through us, not from us.
2. Healing is a partnership. The patient must actively participate for true healing to occur.
3. Love and compassion are our greatest credentials. Degrees and certificates do not define a healer—the heart does.
4. Gratitude is our foundation. We honor those who seek our help and the spiritual forces that guide us.
5. Healing is priceless. It cannot be measured by money but by the transformation it brings.
6. We serve with humility. Our work is not for fame or fortune but for the well-being of all.
Final Thoughts
To be a healer is to embody love, care, and service. It is to walk with humility, guided by the wisdom of our ancestors and the grace of the Divine. May this creed inspire every Hilot Binabaylan to uphold the sacred calling of healing—not as a profession, but as a lifelong mission of compassion.

How much is the cost of Hilot in your Area?
The Philippines is probably has the cheapest Hilot services offered compared to other countries that i found where Hilot is being offered.

So 15,000 Japanese yen today is equivalent to Php 6, 119.16 in Philippine money and that is for 2 hours of Hilot Treatment.
I also saw a Treatment center that offers Hilot in Madrid, Spain and the name of the Center is Xiao Ying.

And the cost of their 60 minutes Hilot is 60.00€ which is equivalent to Philippine Peso as 3, 412.69 and their 2 hours session cost 110€ equivalent to Philippine peso as 6,256.60.

Another center that I found offering Hilot is located in Canada.

Their 60 minutes Hilot Massage cost already $120 in US Dollars while their 2 hours session will cost $230.00, if $120.00 converted into Philippine peso as of writing this, it will cost around Php 6,766.80 for one hour treatment and for 120 minutes or 2 hours treatment session cost Php 12,969.70.
This is an Eyebrow rising cost that i knew. Well I understand why the price is too much comparing the price of Hilot being offered here in the Philippines.
I saw some day spa who offered hilot posted in their facebook page, and the price of their hilot is this:

60 minutes of Hilot in the Philippines is only USD 5.00 and USD 10.00 for 120 minutes
Well Filipino Hilot Providers who offers authentic Philippine Traditional Medicine are not compensated well, and this is the reason why some of them are holding tight to the edge of the blade or what we say as “kapit sa patalim”.
The Filipino Culture of colonial mentality have buried deeply our dignity almost already into oblivion. This is the reason why Hilot Academy and Luntiang Aghama is working hard to raise the standard of Hilot in the Philippines so that our dignity may be elevated again. Providing our Manghihilot proper education will enable them to perform Hilot in a more professional level that will allow them to work in Public Health Care centers of even in Private Health clinics or hospital.
There are so much Job opportunity as i see for our Hilot Practitioners. Not only in Spa. Let us leave the Spa to our Massage Therapist siblings. We can establish our own Hilot Healing Center where it can be a coordinating center with the Philippine Health department, social work and development, agriculture so as the Environment and Natural Resources. We are more than a Therapist, but we are also the Steward of Mother Earth.
Preserving our Ancestral Healing Tradition
Our participation in creating a Standard Competency Standards for National Certification and Accreditation of Hilot Practitioners, Training Institution and Hilot Healing Center has one of its aim in preservation of the Philippine Ancestral Healing Arts and Science.
Throughout the History, the definition of Hilot have been evolved through Generations.
First during the precolonial times, Hilot has been known to be the only medicine for the common people. During those time, our ancestors have power over caring for their own health by employing thier own knowledge and skills so as their behavior towards our natural resources as a form of medicine.
During the Colonial Period, Hilot has become a liberating modality not only in terms of freeing an individual from physical ailments but also from emotional disturbance and mental disabilities.
Still on the Spanish rule that extends to the American Occupation, Hilot becomes a life changing modality that gives woman the power to exercise their power of choice. Hilot has been used for abortion thats free the woman from the responsibility of taking care a new life within their body. Though later on the act of abortion has been criminalized so as the Practice of Hilot on Pregnancy as well as on Maternal Healthcare.
Later on Hilot has become a modality of luxury, where people can avail its services on a Hotel so as in a High End Spa. Now that we are in the 21st century, we are redefining Hilot as we integrate it into our National Healthcare delivery system. And lastly, Hilot becomes our Windows in the past and we dont just see it like in the museum but we can experience it; thus hilot becomes our ancestral and cultural heritage.
Remedial Hilot Curriculum Development
Working on our Curriculum about Remedial Hilot as i work on it i am reminded to be grounded on the Healing Principles that all individual has the ability to heal our selves so the treatment procedure we provide as manghihilot does not intend to heal but to help the individual to heal themselves.
In order for us to assist them in their healing, we should also better understand the Filipino Concept of Illness which is Pilay.
On April 27 i have to present 10 common filipino illnesses but i have identified 13 and have to divide into four category of filipino illness which is pilay ipit, pilay bali, pilay hangin and pilay lamig.
Looking for a cure
Through out our writings and teachings here at Hilot Academy, we have taught that the medicine for our illness can be found within our yard. The herbs that grows within our community is our best medicine for our illness. But the outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease that originates in China and now have spread world wide that it is declared as Pandemic, where can we find its cure?
We might not be able to help out our brothers and sisters in the Medical and Scientific Field, but the Wisdom of our Ancestors can be handy in preventing the spread of this disease.
As Manghihilot according to the principles of herbalism that we practice, we do not deal with the disease but rather we deal with the strengthening the body of man in order to heal our selves. The First Principle of Traditional and Alternative Healthcare is that we believe that man has own ability to heal our selves. That is why when we are sick complete bed rest and taking a lot of fluids are advised until the symptoms are gone.
The next thing we ensure is that the place where we live is thoroughly clean and sanitize so that re infection will not happen. Cleanliness and personal hygiene is necessary. We also have taught that in order to benefit from Healing, it is not only the body of the person we need to treat but also the environment. Remember our Gold Fish analogy?

Sponge bathing is one treatment we do to maintain body temperature when the person is having a high fever. We place cold wet towel on the forehead to cool down and protect the brain from being cooked due to the rise of temperature.
Hypocrates also have mentioned that creating artificial fever would help in healing any kinds of illness. Thus the practice of Suob/Luop/Palina aka Steam Bath are advised to artificially raise up the temperature within the body to fight pathogens and free radicals that comes in to our system that cause illness.

Keeping our body warm and hydration is the best practice we provide in treating illnesses. In the practice of suob, we also prepare glass of drinking water so that from time to time we let the patient drink water as s/he will perspire a lot during the treatment. Giving a drink will hydrate the patient and replenish the loss of water in his system.
In keeping our body warm when we are sick, our parents cover us with blanket at wear us socks in our feet. There is a traditional practice also in making out feet warm is by clipping a clove of garlic or slice of ginger to the in between of our toes. And to some they also place a round slice of onion to the soles of their feet while wearing socks at bed time.
Hilot Masahe is also provided in giving warmth to the body as well as in aligning nerves or bone structure into position. Sometimes disalignment is also cause of pain and imflamation.

What is in the Glass?
It’s an broken egg with its yolk on the base of the glass while the albumen floats and create images.
This is an Egg Tawas. Our Mexican #Kapwa Curanderos does this too in their Limpia Ritual. So as in Italy they do this once a Year at the Eve of the Feast of Saint Peter.
Aside from Tawas, Hilot Academy also teach how to remove sick energies using the Egg. So we invite you to learn this technique by enrolling to our Hilot ng Aghamang Binabaylan Training which is an 8 day stay in training at Hilot Academy.
